Albany, NY – November 20, 2024 – Robert J. Paeglow, MD of Koinonia Primary Care has been recognized as a 2024 CDPHP Top Doctors Peabody Award Winner. This prestigious award, presented by Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan, Inc. (CDPHP), recognizes local physicians who are delivering high-quality, compassionate care that improves the lives of their patients and communities.

The CDPHP Top Doctors Peabody Award is a special distinction awarded to select providers who embody the highest ideals of patient-centered care. Named in honor of Dr. Francis Peabody, known for his famous declaration, “The secret of the care of the patient is in caring for the patient,” this award celebrates a provider’s commitment to the human side of health care.

Peabody Award winners are nominated by their patients and peers and included in the annual CDPHP Top Doctors report, which measures physician practices across a broad range of criteria, including patient health outcomes, quality of care metrics, as well as patient satisfaction scores.

“I’m honored to receive the CDPHP Top Doctor Peabody Award,” said Dr. Paeglow. “My mission has always been to provide quality care to the most marginalized, and this is only possible because of the dedication of the Koinonia team. It’s especially meaningful to serve in the neighborhood where I grew up, guided by our faith-based belief that all people are deserving of dignity and respect.”

An Albany native and cum laude graduate of Albany Medical College, Dr. Paeglow founded Koinonia Primary Care in 2001 in the West Hill neighborhood of Albany, where he provides vital care to more than 2,400 patients annually. The faith-based, non-profit clinic offers both primary and mental health services to underserved populations.

Dr. Paeglow has led 28 medical missions, treating more than 100,000 patients worldwide. As an educator, he mentors medical students, emphasizing service to the underserved. His work has earned numerous honors, including the 2009 Jefferson Award for Public Service and honorary degree from Siena College.

The 2024 CDPHP Top Doctors report includes a list of the top-performing primary care practices in the areas of pediatric, adult medicine, and family medicine practices. The report also includes a list of primary care practices that excel in the areas of cancer care and prevention, diabetes care, appropriate antibiotic prescribing, and patient satisfaction.
